About Gene Vincent
My name is Gene Vincent. Preaching the Gospel and expressing His word through music are my passions. Singing and song writing, playing guitar, harmonica, fiddle, mandolin for the Lord is a joy. In short, the treasure of my life is my life in Jesus Christ. Like many I found this treasure after years of searching.
I was born and reared in Jennings, a town in Southwest Louisiana. My heritage includes that of the Cajun culture. The Cajuns are descendants of Acadians who came from Canada in 1765-1785 to escape religious persecution. Cajuns have maintained much of their language and culture despite the ensuing years of English cultural influence.
The Lord called me when I was a little boy and I remember wanting to serve Him with all my heart. A few years later, I began to doubt what I had held as so sacred. By my mid teens, I decided to be an atheist. No one could prove the existence of God to me. During these years I was shrouded in darkness and was miserable with my life. I volunteered for Vietnam as an Air Force medic at the age of eighteen and spent one year "in country." It was during this time I met the Lord in a very real way and was born again. I have loved Him since that time.
I spent the next four plus years as an undisciplined Christian wandering around the country. The night I met the Lord, though, He burned on my heart that "If I would seek, I would find." It is still on my heart and, as I continue to seek the Lord, I continue to find Him in deeper and higher realms of His Glory.
I've been married for 32 yrs to my wife, Myrnita (Nita), and we've spent 31 of those years in full time service to the Lord. We originally stepped out in faith to write songs, do music ministry, and serve the Lord in whatever way He would lead. We have some wonderful memories of times in the Lord's presence. We have four children (3 daughters and 1 son ages 25 to 21) and three grandchildren. (Like someone said"If I had known grandchildren would be that much fun, I would have had them first.")
Presently, I am a district evangelist with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. I believe that all four aspects of the Four Fold Gospel involve what Christ will do Himself to accomplish the Father's Will. Jesus saves, sanctifies, heals, and will come again. My main purpose in life is to get Jesus what He paid for with joyful holiness.
